Kakadu

Our final stop was Kakadu.
When we got to the camp it was very hot and we went for a swim in the pool. After that we went to Nourlangie Rock. It was a good lookout and there was lots of really old aboriginal art on the rocks.

Rosengrens, Wrights and Brownhills at Nourlangie Rock
Next we went to Nawurlandja (ask Dan how to pronounce that!). It was also a good lookout and had lots of rocks to climb on.
The next day we went to Twin Falls and Jim Jim Falls. First we went to Twin Falls. We had to go on a boat to get on the walk because there are crocodiles in the river we had to get up.  I climbed up a really tall cliff with Patrick and Dan Wright.

Next we went to Jim Jim Falls. The water was really cold (in fact freezing) and I did not have a swim (because I am a cold frog). I got so tired at the end of the walk.
The next day we went on the Yellow Water Cruise. We saw lots of saltwater crocodiles and all sorts of birds. We had a buffet breakfast.

Later that day we went to a place called Ubirr which has lots of aboriginal art and a really good lookout.

On the last day (today) we went to Gunlom. First we went to the plunge pool at the bottom and then we went to the top to have a swim. We walked up very high and the swimming hole was on the edge of a cliff. We saw a water moniter sitting on a rock.
Tomorrow morning we are driving to Darwin. We are going to see some jumping crocs on the way. Only 2 more sleeps and then we fly home to Brisbane and back to school.

Katherine Gorge

The lookout
When we got to Katherine Gorge we went for a swim in the campground pool.

The next day we went on an 8km walk. I was really tired (and not too happy!) at the end (Dan wishes to point out that now he is 6 he is an excellent walker and he led most of the way).
On the long trek
Resting
Never resting.......
Swimming at Bitter Springs
The next day we went to Bitter Springs. The water was really warm (Tom says it is because Dan peed in the water. Dan says it is because Tom peed in the water). The water comes up from deep under the ground and it is the warmest water we have swum in. It was like a bath. We floated along in the water to a little bridge at the other end.
After that we went to the Cutta Cutta caves. I had so much fun looking at the stalectites and stalecmites. We went 20 metres under the ground.

We had a camp fire and toasted marshmellows and watched a DVD until very late. There are thousands of bats in the campground trees and they are very noisy (and dirty!!)

Watching a DVD in the Wright's tent
We went on a boat on the Gorge. We had to get off the boat, climb over rocks and get on a different boat at each gorge. We all went for a swim at Lilly Ponds.
On the boat
A baby crocodile
A big crocodile print in the sand
There was a waterfall you could walk behind. I had a very bad fall off the rocks and hurt myself all over (in fact he almost killed himself falling at least 3 metres off a cliff ledge onto the rocks below). I have a sore head, sore back and sore bottom and I have bruises everywhere. (It is unbelievable no serious damage occurred except to mum and dad who got a massive fright)

We are going to Kakadu tomorrow and then we come home.

HOME VALLEY

The next place was called Home Valley. It was a good fun place for kids. They had a great playground and we swam in the pool. (Daniel played so hard that he went to bed each night with heat stroke – if only he put as much (in fact any!) effort into learning his letters……) I read three whole books.

We did a day trip to Emma Gorge. It was a hot and rocky walk. At the end of the walk there was a very high waterfall. There was a hot spring behind some rocks in the corner.

The Pentecost River is a really big river and full of crocodiles. We have driven through it (Dad gets quite excited when we drive through rivers) seven times now (and not been eaten up).

We have now finished the Gibb River Road. Back to school in 2 weeks!

EL QUESTRO

After Mitchell Falls we went to El Questro. We went to El Questro Gorge, It was really rocky, slippery and shady. It was a very long walk. I did not go to the end because I was sick but dad and the others (including the Wright’s) did. When mum and I got back to the halfway pool to wait the sun was out. I was very tired when we got back to the carpark.

In the afternoon we went to Explosion Gorge. It was very beautiful. We also went to a lookout. It was so good

The next day we hired a boat and took it on Chamberlain Gorge. It was so fun and I got to drive the boat (Daniel would like to point out that he did too – drove the boat in circles and his parents around the bend).

Next we went to Zebedee Springs. The water was really warm because it bubbles up from deep under the ground. I put my head in behind the waterfall and I could see out through it.

In the afternoon we went fro a swim in the little waterhole next to the campground.

The next day we went for a walk to Amalia Gorge. The walk was really rocky and hot. I climbed up a tall slope and a cliff that kept on going up. At the end there was a waterfall and the coldest water we have swum in (my dad seemed to be talking funny!)
