Broome

When we got to Broome we went down to the beach. We played on the rocks and we had dinner on the beach (Fresh Barramundi, calamari and chips - yummy!) We also watched the sunset over the Indian Ocean.

The next day we went shopping and went for a little swim at the beach. In the afternoon we went for a camel ride. When the camel stands up we had to lean back and hold on tight or otherwise you would fall off. On the way down you had to do the same. My camel's name was Mission because it was Mission Impossible to train him.

We spent the rest of our time in Broome swimming on our surf mats at Cable Beach.

On the last day the Wrights arrived. We had a BBQ on the beach and watched them have their camel ride.

Fitzroy Crossing and Geikie Gorge by Dan ('s dad)

After the excitement of Tom's birthday we moved on to Fitzroy Crossing.

We went for a boat cruise on the Fitzroy River through Geikie Gorge. It was really cool and we counted 50 crocodiles.

Before the cruise we went for a walk along the river. Dad tried to take us through a short cut. There were hundreds of prickles. They were really sharp and really hard to get off. I had them EVERYWHERE and Mrs Brownhill helped pull them all off. It took ages. They call my dad Russell Coight.

We went fishing in the afternoon. Dad tried to teach me to cast. I tried but the lady sitting 25 metres away looked a little unimpressed when the lure hit her in the back. Lucky the hook didn't stick in. Dad apologised and then I didn't try and cast again!

We are going to Broome next. Dad says it is not where Harry Potter lives.

My Birthday

On my birthday I woke up early. I tried to stay awake until everyone woke up but fell asleep again. I woke up and found my presents.

The first present I opened was from Jacob. It was a game called Totally Gross.

The other presents were Harry Potter things. I got the real Harry Potter wand from Olivanders. I also got glasses and the Quidditch robes. We played around and had a quiet day.

Mummy cooked me a Harry Potter birthday cake in the BBQ. It was great.

In the afternoon mummy and daddy went on a helicopter.

The drive in

The next camp was the Bungle Bungle. The road was very bumpy and we had to drive through water. We had lunch at 4 o'clock.
The next day we went to Echidna Chasm. The walk was like walking through a crack in the rocks.

The next walk was called Mini Palm Gorge. It was a tiring walk. When we got to the end of the walk we had expected palm trees but they were all dead. (washed away in a flood) The walk back was better.

In the evening we went to a lookout. I found a great spot that no one else was at.

The next day we went to the Domes. We found a little dirty pond (it was in fact quite spectacular despite this understatement by Tom!)

The next walk was Piccanniny Creek Lookout. The lookout was cool. He had to jump along really smooth rocks.

And the last walk was called Cathedral Gorge. We saw another pond. The walk is shady. On the way back I climbed up into a little pond that had lots of little tadpoles.

I had to do homework today. The sound Ee. I'm still trying to remember what letters the sound c and k belong to but promise I will have it sorted when I get home (if my Dad has not gone mad before hand - he says he is not meant to be a teacher - he is silly)

We are going to the Bungle Bungles tomorrow - what a silly name - should be fun though.

Kununurra (by Tom as usual!)

We are now in Kununurra which is the start of the Kimberley. Yesterday I went for a drive to Wyndham which is the most northern town in Western Australia. In Wyndham I had nuggets and chips and after lunch we went for a drive up a big hill to see where five rivers flow out into the ocean. We could only see four but the fifth one was hiding behind an island.

The drive to Wyndham was fun. It was a bumpy dirt road. We stopped to look at waterholes and climb rocks. I love climbing the rocks. We had morning tea at Middle Springs.

The drive home was also fun. We stopped at The Grotto. We had to walk down lots of steep steps. I jumped off a ledge into the freezing water. The next time  jumped the ledge was nearly ten metres high.

Today we went for a walk into the mini Bungle Bungles. I did some great rock climbing.

Tonight we are going to the pub to watch State of Origin.

Lake Argyle (by Tom)

In the car on the way to Lake Argyle we crossed the border into Western Australia.

Our camp site was on the edge of the lake.

Lake Argyle is awesome. I was really disappointed about missing out on the excursion to Wivenhoe Dam but I think I made up for it.

Lake Argyle is the biggest man made lake in the southern hemisphere. It is over 1 and a half times more full than it is meant to be. When it is in flood it is more than 84 times the size of Sydney Harbour. We went for a walk up a hill to look at the lake. It seems to go on forever.

The water in the lake is used as drinking water for the caravan park but not by the cities around it because it has too much calcium and it is too hard to make it clean enough to drink. It is used for growing crops and for a big diamond mine nearby.

The next day we went for a drive over the dam wall. I saw the power station where the water is used to make electricity. In the afternoon we went for a ride on a boat on the Lake. We saw the dam wall from the other side. We saw crocodiles, baby kites and Euros (little wallabies). I got to drive the boat for a bit which was cool. We stayed out on the water to watch the sun set before going back to camp for dinner.

Timber Creek and Lake Argyle (by Dan)

I have decided that Tom is a good writer and I am very busy playing my DSI that I don't have much time to blog much. Timber Creek was fun and I got to feed a crocodile some meat. I had to watch my Dad carefully because he was going to use me as bait. I THINK he was joking.

Lake Argyle is huge. They had a great swimming pool. It doesn't have an edge and it looks like it flows over a cliff into the lake. It was freezing so I didn't swim for long.

We went for a walk to look at the lake and then we also went on a boat ride on the lake. I got to eat biscuits and drink apple juice. I also got to drive the boat for a bit which made all of the other people very nervous.

It was great. There was lots of water to look at (got boring quickly) but we saw crocodiles and Euros (little kangaroos) and it was dark when we got on the bus to go back to the tent.

Tom can write the rest. I am very busy having fun. (and too busy to do all of Aunty Genevieve's homework!)

Timber Creek (by Tom)

After Litchfield we went to Timber Creek. It was a long drive and we had lunch at Katherine. When we got to camp I fed a crocodile with some meat hanging from a rope. (Dad told Dan he would tie a road around his ankle and dip him in the water to get the bigger crocs to come out). It was a freshwater crocodile so it wasn't quite so scary.

The next day we went for a drive along the dirt road to visit Jasper Gorge. I got a bit car sick and we had to stop. We found a HUGE tree - the biggest tree we have ever seen. It was called a Boab Tree.

After morning tee we got back in the car but then stopped again to walk along the creek. We looked for crocodiles but couldn't find any.

In the afternoon I kicked the footy with my dad and then we went to the top of a hill to watch the sun set.

When we got to the camp site we went for a swim. Mostly a walk really. We had to climb over lots of rocks on the walk and I was very clever and I did not fall over (Dan adds that he was also very clever and that he led the way back to the car after the swim - although Dad says Dan got everyone lost and some nice man must have shifted our car to the place where we found it)

The next day we went to Wangi Falls. We could not swim because of crocodiles. We went for a walk along Greenant Creek to have a swim and jump off a waterfall into a deep swimming hole. (Dan adds that he was the best walker and that now that he is 6 he is very brave and he jumped off the really high rock ledge, over the waterfall and into the rock pool - cool fun)

It was a very hot day (over 33 degrees) and we had a rest. We went for another swim at Florence Falls. I went under a big waterfall. (Dan says he went for the swim but nearly drowned)

Darwin (by Tom)

On Sunday I arrived in Darwin on a QANTAS. In the plane I watched a movie. I kept on looking over at Tess'. When we landed mummy and daddy were waiting there for us. When we got to the park it was hot and we went for a swim.

Today it was Dan's birthday and he was turning six. When Daniel opened his presents they were all Harry Potter. I was cross because I wanted them. First we went to feed fish. I loved feeding them bread. Next we went to Crocosaurus Cove. We saw big crocodiles and small crocodiles. We also saw lizards and a snake eating a dead mouse.

When we got back we went for another swim. Before we had dinner a man sung happy birthday so the hole caravan park could hear.

Tomorrow we are going to Litchfield

My 6th Birthday (Dan)

Yesterday we came to Darwin on the airplane with my Nan and Grandad. It is hot in Darwin so we went for a swim in the pool at the caravan park. It is cold at night.

Today was my birthday and now I am 6. I got Harry Potter stuff - a wand, a Hogwarts uniform, a broomstick and glasses. Tom is cross. He wants my Harry Potter stuff.

We went to feed the fish. They tried to eat my legs. I gave them bread. We went to Crocosaurus Cove. I saw some huge ones and lots of baby ones. I saw venomous snakes. I holded a lizard and a crocodile. I got a photo with Tom and Tess holding a crocodile on my head. Lucky it didn't do a poo.


I had a Harry Potter cake and the man sang happy birthday to me from the whole park.


I am really tired now. We are going to Litchfield tomorrow
